WTF

I was in a meeting today at work with two coworkers who are the Crisis Management planning team and we were working on creating an exercise for our business to go through to practice different crisis scenarios. Last year was a fire. This year is an IT outage.

In the middle of the meeting, one of them gasped and uttered, “oh my god, what!?” Or something to that effect. I glanced at his screen and saw the news headline about Trump’s threat to wipe out an entire civilization tonight if they didn’t do what he wanted.

I didn’t say anything, though I understood his chagrin. Why was he checking the news amidst our meeting? But as I consider this, I can’t think of anything more relevant. We are working to help our business prepare for crisis. We have a hypothetical IT crisis we’re talking about, and we have a very real one happening in real time. The guy who has the nuclear codes is unhinged and publicly threatening war crimes, genocide, as we speak.

“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again…”

And his Easter Sunday Tweet:

Today will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Straight, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP
These are war crimes he’s threatening

This is insane.

How are so many elected officials and military leaders who have sworn an oath to uphold the constitution allowing this to continue????

How do we stop this?

Articulated

My son is writing for his campus newspaper. Proud mom moment! He had two articles published in this first paper. I was expecting a light-hearted pop culture piece. I was delighted to read such a well-articulated and thoughtful piece.

I’ve often lamented the loss of a more innocent, kind, and carefree world as my kids came of age during Covid lockdowns, active shooter drills, and a president who spews and encourages hatred and division, cultivating and amplifying white supremacy, dehumanizing the marginalized, and normalizing corruption. It was a profound moment, reading how my adult son perceived this shift, looking back to when he was 10 years old and articulating his view of how the world has changed; what we’ve lost. I had difficulty finishing the article through tears. They were tears of sadness for the fucked up world my kids have inherited, but also immense pride at this wisdom and deeper reflection from my grown son.
